Ha Noi hotels: Hanoi needs 13,000 hotel rooms more by 2010

According to figures from the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, if aiming to welcome 2 million foreign tourists by 2010, Hanoi needs another 13,000 rooms, especially rooms in 3-5-star hotels.

In 2006, De Loitte&Touche LLP ranked Hanoi third among the countries with the largest amout of rooms. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism said that Hanoi now has 516 to stay with 12,894 rooms, comprising of 181 ranked hotels with 8,562 rooms. However, the number of hotel is relatively small and the number of hotels possessing 50-100 rooms only accounts for about 3.63 percent and 8.87 percent.

The hotels capacity has only reached 83 percent on average, an increase of 1 percent against that of 2005.

According to calculations, the target of reaching 2 million foreigners and 6-7 million domestic visitors by 2010 is feasible and in line with the tourism development plans approved by Hanoi by 2020. However, Hanoi needs another 13,000 rooms.

Hanoi will have to build more than 3,300 rooms in the 2007-2010 period. Of this the number of rooms in 4-5 star hotels will be 1,700 a year, equivalent to the construction of more than six or seven 4-5 star hotels.

Five-star hotels which will be newly-invested are: a 500-million USD hotel with 550 rooms in Me Tri Commune, Tu Liem District invested by Riviera Group (Japan), a 270-billion VND hotel with 200 rooms in My Dinh, Tu Liem District, a 80-million USD hotel with 564 rooms in Tran Duy Hung Street, Thanh Xuan District, invested by Charmvit (RoK), a 75-million USD hotel with 350 rooms in Me Tri, Tu Liem District, invested by Vietnam Petro and Gas Corp, a 500-million USD hotel with 500 rooms in Cau Giay Urban area, invested Keang Nam Company (RoK).

First 6-star hotel under construction in Nha Trang

The Vinpearl Tourism and Trade Joint-stock Company in late March began the construction of a six-star hotel, the first in Vietnam, in coastal Nha Trang city, central Khanh Hoa province.

Located on Bai Soi, one of the most beautiful beaches of the Hon Tre island, offshore Nha Trang city, the hotel will include two presidential villas with world-class deluxe conveniences, and three super luxury villas.

It will also have 125 six-star suite rooms, a 3,200 sq.m swimming pool and two tennis courts.

The hotel, part of a project to build a 80,000 sq.m Vinpearl Land tourism and entertainment complex, is scheduled to be put into operation in January next year.
